Underwater

Underwater is an ocean floor thriller film with lots of claustrophobic, wet atmosphere. Norah (Kristen Stewart) is an engineer working in subterranean laboratory at the ocean floor. When an earthquake destroys the laboratory, she and the crew of marine scientists find themselves at the mercy of the ocean’s depths. As they struggle to survive, they discover that they are not alone and a fierce enemy has been awoken.

On paper, underwater does not seem very different from other movies in this sub-genre of horror. However, it does have constant action and the buildup to the movie’s central monster is very methodical. Directed by William Eubank, the cinematography of Underwater is excellent. The film feels well-constructed and submerges you in its limited lit, deadly, and oxygen-dwindling setting. It’s initial release date was January 8, 2020 and a pretty good copy of it spread on torrent sites March 25th.
