The MIA documentary has been a work in progress for a long time, and delayed multiple times. Finally, we get to see the movie as it's set to premiere on Sundance 2018.
Back in 2011 the director Stephen Loveridge leaked a teaser trailer himself after MIA's label Interscope no longer funded the movie. Loveridge then stated that he "would rather die than work on this." and MIA replied by saying that a Kickstarter might solve the issues with the movie release. This never happened and all we got was the trailer, for long time. But out of nowhere, the movie is now set to premiere at the festival.
The movie, titled MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A, is largely based on tons of personal footage shot by or with MIA herself.
