The story follows a teenage girl and her group of unlikely heroes who must save their blocky Overworld from the destructive Ender Dragon. It aims to capture the adventurous and creative spirit of the game while building a narrative that works for the big screen.
Development has been rocky. First announced in 2014, the project went through multiple directors and rewrites. Warner Bros. and Mojang (the game’s developer) finally locked in the current team in the early 2020s. After years of delays, production officially began in 2023.
By the time of its release, it will have spent over a decade in development hell.
