Set in the 1970s, the plot of the film revolves around a young Gru (Steve Carell), who is determined to join a very powerful supervillain group called the Vicious 6. However, when he is made fun of during the job interview, Gru decides to steal a highly valuable stone from the Vicious 6. The group of villains then set out to find and capture Gru and regain the stone. With the help of Minions, Gru escapes and the adventure begins.
